8 of my top 10 songs right now are Australian - including the entire top 5. I don’t think this has ever happened before. I only noticed it while synching my iPhone.
Wow. I’m a little surprised. Even though I’m quite partial to home-grown music, I can’t remember having so many Aussie songs being so prominent before. So… let’s take a journey into sound. Australianophonic (with 2 pommies) sound.
Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye (yes, 12 weeks as my most played song. I can’t help it, I’m addicted. But the competition with the next two songs is tough…)
Get Used To It - Ben Lee (lulls you in before rocking out, then lulls, then rocks. Great composition)
Bleeders - The Trouble With Templeton (saw this on Rage a fortnight ago and fell in love - no idea if it was a hit anywhere as it was released months ago - but it should be)
Future Primitive - The Vines (this has been in my top 50 since May, and only just latched its claws into me. The Vines have a habit of doing that)
Bloodstained Heart - Darren Hayes (ultra-slick pop ballad. I can’t help it, the boy has an astonishing voice)
The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala - Arctic Monkeys (the UK’s first entry in my Top ten. What can I say? With Sha la la la as a chorus you can’t go wrong!)
Hearts a Mess - Gotye (officially celebrated its 5th year of being in my iTunes this week. This song is immortal)
Out of Talk - Darren Hayes (mash-up of Darren’s previous single Talk Talk Talk and one of my all-time favourites: Hall & Oates Out of Touch. Viva Retro 80’s!)
Jackson Hole - Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson (a three year old song, but I only heard it a few weeks ago. Unlike my wife, I’m not a fan of the rest of the album, but this song’s country folk grunge grabs me, while the heartbeat tempo makes it a great song to walk to)
Days Are Forgotten - Kasabian (UK song number two - these boys never fail to impress. Must get the album when I’m back in the black)
