About

Always growing older - never growing up.

Eclectic random geekery: Star Wars, Doctor Who, Sci-Fi, science, photography, LEGO, and stupid, stupid things.

This is my personal opinion / reblogging blog. If you're after my personal photos or awful photoshop creations, the links are below.

LIKE YOU CARE...

As they say in the classics "I'm too old for this shit".

That said, I live in sunny Brisbane (Australia), forging a career in advertising / marketing whilst enjoying life as it comes.

I take photos on my iPhone, listen to (a lot of) music on my iPhone, and like Star Wars. So yes, I'm a geek.

That's about it.

Party on!

Star Wars Action Figures: Collect All 41!
Vintage Empire Strikes Back cardback from Kenner offering a “Free Action Figure Survival Kit” with purchase of any five Star Wars Action Figures.
Scan by Skip The Frogman

I collected my tokens diligently, sent them off, and waited. And waited. Double the time past expected delivery I wrote to them saying “where’s my pack? I’m a sad teenage geek”.They very kindly sent me a pack with a letter of apology. Then a few days later the original kit finally arrived. I was mortified. I felt like I’d lied to, and thereby cheated (nay ripped-off), my hero George Lucas.

It took ages of looking, but this design frustrated me - I’ve never seen it before. Apparently it’s the third book in the Japanese novelisation of the original Star Wars Trilogy by none other than the master Noriyoshi Ohrai.
See more of his work here.

Star Wars Saga Mapped

Very cool, but wouldn’t it be better if you could find one big enough to actually read? :)
Joe to the rescue! Check out a hi-res version here (Tatooine is in the bottom middle in case anyone cares). Of course, what good is a map without an index? Got ya covered there, too: Coordinates of all the places you’ll be looking for.
Here’s a thought experiment for you: Is the Star Wars galaxy oddly small or does it have an unusually high density of habitable, life-harboring planets? This may or may not relate to an upcoming episode of the YouTube show.

Here’s a mashup poster I made of Star Wars Episode 7 and Little Miss Sunshine, two movies written by screenwriter Michael Arndt. When he was announced as the Episode 7 screenwriter, the poster idea popped into my head and it wouldn’t go away.
The moment I tried to capture was the main characters getting ready to hop into the Millenium Falcon and head out into the next movie (of course, the story for Ep VII will most likely not have them all in it, but I picked them in the absence of any real story details). I wanted to stay as true to the iconic LMS poster as I could, and adjusted the Millienium Falcon’s dimensions to better match the VW van. Picking which character would replace which was fun, and certain subtleties were serendipitous, like the similarity of vests between the characters of Alan Arkin and Harrison Ford. Although I included official logos and crew names at the bottom for a more realistic touch, this is of course just fan art and was not made for commercial purposes.
Shout-out to the guys at 8-Bit Cubist for their helpful feedback as I worked on it.
